Camper Life

In April of 2018, we purchased our own 16' camper trailer. We call it the "pod", as it is pretty small and shaped like a bean pod. We mostly have been living in it full time and traveling the country and enjoying life on the road.

Yet, like most things, there is always more than meets the eye and having two people live in small trailer can have it challenges ! In the beginning, we adopted a medium size dog and quickly realized that he got the couch and we got the bed. Later, the dog overtook the bed too !  A funny memory is when we were prepping a steak for dinner and my boyfriend went outside to make a phone call. The dog was left inside for several minutes but managed to engulf the WHOLE RAW steak ! Ha! Let's just say the dog didn't poop for several days and when he did, oh man, it was something else. Poor guy.

The two us have to often crawl over each other, on top of each other and gently push each other out of the way. There is always something in the way ! We are trying to minimize our possessions and live simply (which has been great) but clutter can get out of hand very quickly !

We have to constantly check and double check that everything is secure in the trailer before we go on the road. Items must be secured and cabinet doors tied. A recent "whoops" moment was when we had a glass jar of homemade marina sauce slip off the kitchen counter and break onto the floor. Glass and red pasta sauce was everywhere ! Hopefully, we won't do that again !

A lot of maintenance and upkeep is required for our small trailer. It is just a like a house, but a house on wheels. We have a water pump, heater, air conditioner, electrical system, hoses, a shower, toilet, gray water tank, black water tank, battery, propane system and the screws continually jiggle out loose. However, I am learning a lot and can do minor repairs as well !

We don't have to pay rent ! This is awesome ! We don't have any bills like cable, electric, gas, or internet ! This is great to have freedom and feel a bit "off the grid". We often buy propane to keep the refrigerator and heat running. We own a small generator that can run 12 hours on one gallon of gasoline!

We have been to so many places since the beginning of year. New Mexico, Nevada, California, Oregon, Utah, Arizona and can't wait to explore more. Every day is new and exciting. We meet all kinds of people on the road and been enjoying some of our great National Parks too! We enjoy every sunrise and sunset as we spend a majority of our time at our camp outside. We have great campfires and enjoy cooking over an open fire.

I can't tell you how many times we meet people who exclaim, "OH, I wish I could do that!" or "Wow, you are living the dream!" Well, you know what, YOU CAN DO IT TOO !!!!!! Live the dream ! You only live once and none of us are getting any younger !
